Crewmembers come from all walks of life and from all around the U.S. and the world. Despite different backgrounds, all share a love of sailing and adventure. Many are boat owners, yacht club members or frequent charterers.
The ratio of men to women is typically 2:1. The average age is 40, although it is not unusual to have a 20-year-old sharing a watch with someone in his 60's. Women and couples are especially encouraged to apply.
Crews are selected by application. The qualities sought most are a keen interest in sailing, a willingness to be part of a team, and a desire to learn more about offshore cruising. Most crewmembers have at least a few years of sailing under their belts—enough to feel comfortable crewing underway at sea. Some applicants with less experience take courses or gain additional experiences before signing on.
