Build your offshore miles! Newport to Santa Barbara, Pt. Conception, San Miguel Island

Adventure Sailing Aboard BluefinFor sailors with previous offshore experience, this five day voyage goes to the outer edge of Southern California’s sailing grounds. Departing in the evening, Bluefin will motor through the night to Santa Barbara. This will provide an excellent opportunity to practice rules of the road and radar use while passing busy LA harbor and paralleling the shipping lanes.

In Santa Barbara, Bluefin will be ata guest dock, allowing crew time to explore downtown by foot or tram.

An early morning departure will head Bluefin toward Point Conception, known as the “Cape Horn of the Pacific”. Night will be spent tucked behind Conception at the famous Cojo anchorage. Day three will find Bluefin on a fast reach to Cuyler Harbor at San Miguel Island. With the hook down, Bluefin’s crew will stretch their legs with a hike ashore. Day four will find Bluefin headed for Santa Cruz or Santa Barbara islands, depending on conditions. The final day will be spent sailing home to Newport.

This is an excellent course for enhancing the following skills underway: Night piloting/navigation, radar, rules of the road, voyage planning and routing, watch standing, safety procedures, provisioning and galley management, big boat sailing and steering techniques. Additionally,modern cruising boat operation of: hydraulic furling, electric winches, DC and generator systems, and use of a bow thruster.

Bluefin will sail with two instructors and five students.
