This intensive and challenging course is for sailors with a desire to improve their seamanship skills in order to plan and pursue serious coastal cruising on their own. If you are confortable cruising on 35' to 50' sail boats and dream of taking longer passages with greater confidence, Coastal Passage Making is for you.
The Coastal Passage Making course prepares you for sailing your own yacht on overnight coastal passages or for chartering worldwide. Upon certification you will have successfully demonstrated your ability to responsibly skipper and crew during passages on coastal waters, in a variety of conditions, including all hours of the day and night.
Students will be involved in all aspects of running the vessel 24 hours. Trip prepartion, navigation, watch keeping, weather considerations, anchoring, crew welfare, communicatin, team work, and leadership are a sample of the skills covered during this course. Discussion topics led by the skipper and first mate are reinforced by hands-on learning.
Proper preparation prior to the course and intensive participation durin gthe course will insure that you leave with a full understanding and the skills necessary to handle the rigors of coastal passage making.

Five (5) students
Eligible students must have their US SAILING Bareboat Cruising and Coastal Navigation certifications. Recent day sailing and weekend cruising on boats 30' or longer is strongly recommended.
