Successful completion of Shields 2 or equivalent is required for this class. Shields 3 is designed for sailors with intermediate sailing skills who would like more time on the water to advance their sailing skills. You should be able to comfortably sail a Shields class sloop or similar sized vessel on all points of sail before taking this course. You will be expected to know sailing terminology, rigging/down rigging procedures and basic Rules of the Road. By the end of the course, you should know advanced sail trim, jury-rigging techniques and have knowledge of tides and currents, aids to navigation and ocean sailing.
Students who have completed Shields 3 will have the option of taking Let's Go Fly a Kite or Basic Cruising I.
