Leg 8 - Antigua to Panama - May 3-20, 2011

Antigua will still be recovering from Race Week when we cast off. This is often a rollicking good downwind sail. Canal operations require us to arrive in Panama before our transit, allowing for time to explore the neighboring area which is filled with history.

Leg 8 - May 8, 2011

Beautiful day on AE. Blue skies, blue water and fair wind. Course is 235 Mg. Wind 18
Kt at 090 Tr.

Last night we saw winds to 30 Kt and the crew did a great job of steering the wind
and waves for a comfortable night. All crew are fine and looking forward to the next
adventure...Panama Canal!

Sail changes this AM went off without a hitch under the able leadership of Brian and
Brad. Right now jib is poled out to port, stay sail is flying to Starboard and main
is to starboard making for a comfortable quiet ride.

Leg 8 - May 4, 2011

Sailing downwind at 6 knots in the dark just off the South end of Montserrat, no sign of the volcanic activity that forced the population off the island a few years ago. Lights ashore tell that some residents are back, even though entire neighborhoods were completely buried in ash.
